Cytotoxic Therapy Cytotoxic Therapy

The effectiveness of chemotherapy is often limited due to the poor oxygenation of tumors, this is known as hypoxia, as well as to increased or decreased activity of specific signaling pathways that help cancer cells survive cytotoxic assault (chemotherapy). Also, toxicity to normal tissues often limits the doses of chemotherapy that can safely be administered.

Oasis of Hope treatments address these issues by boosting the oxygen content of tumors – with Perftec and ozone autohemotherapy – and by blocking or activating signaling pathways that promote cancer survival with nutraceuticals like salsalate and silymarin, among others. At the same time, toxicity to normal tissues is alleviated through use of oxidative preconditioning and administration of agents such as melatonin and glutamine.

Oasis of Hope is also exploring the use of epigenetic therapy, a strategy which reverses changes in tumors that often give rise to chemotherapy resistance.
