Welcome New Patients

On Your First Day

Your patient representative will be in charge of overseeing the care you receive at Oasis of Hope. Your patient representative will meet you once you arrive at Oasis of Hope if your arrival time is within the following daily schedule: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

If your patient representative is not available, our personnel at the front desk will escort you to your room. Your patient representative will contact you in your room as soon as possible.

Your Patient Representative will do the following:

1. Give you general information about your room:

• Room equipment (light switches, nurse-calling devices, etc.)
• Telephone and voice mail features
• Temperature-control fixtures (heater, fan, air conditioner)

2. Provide information as far as the location of the following places:

• Cafeteria
• Laundry
• Spiritual and emotional-support areas
• General distribution of patient areas
• Oasis of Hope patient manual

3. Give you the necessary admissions paperwork needed to be filled.

4. Schedule a meeting with one of our physicians for your physical exam.

5. Schedule a time for your initial laboratory tests, X-rays, MRI, Cat scans etc.

PATIENTS ROOMS
We offer on-site and are able to arrange off-site accommodations for patients who live outside the San Diego / Tijuana area and who are currently undergoing cancer treatment. There are 35 rooms available at Oasis of Hope for patients and their caregivers. While we would like to accommodate all of our patients at the Oasis of Hope, from time to time we arrange for off-site accommodations, due to patient high volumes. All patients with special needs, medical or personal, are always given first priority to stay at the Oasis of Hope. View the Oasis of Hope Photo Gallery.

Oasis of Hope accommodations include:

• 24-Hour nursing care
• Televisions with Cable TV
• A shower and bathroom in each room
• Double bed for companion / caregiver
• Wireless internet access (for your laptop computer)
• Personal telephone w/ individual number

DINNING HALL
The Oasis of Hope's Dining Hall, offers our patients a rich loving environment, where all the patients get together every day, giving the opportunity not only to eat right but to make lifelong friendships. Trained cooks and nutritionists create delicious and nutritious menus only with the best organic ingredients.

INTERNET
Hi-Speed Internet access is available to all of our patients 24 hours a day at the computer hub located at the dining hall, that way you can stay in touch with your loved ones at all times.

LONG DISTANCE PHONE CALLS
You can make long distance calls from your room; however, we should advise you that telephone rates for international calls are very high in Mexico. If you are going to be making international calls we suggest the following:

• Ask for your phone bill from at least once a week from your patient representative.
• You have the option of bringing your own cell phone. Remember to make sure international calls are allowed in your current mobile plan.

INCOMING CALLS
Your family and friends can contact you by phone by dialing the hospital directly at (619) 690-8400, which is the switchboard number. Your room number is also the extension number. Every room also has a direct line that does not go through the switchboard; you can ask your patient representative for this number. The phone in your room has a voicemail where your loved ones can leave messages for you if you are not in your room or are unable to answer the phone.

CHAPEL
Built in 2003 to create a spiritual environment, the chapel offers a quiet, spiritual and yet modern space where daily prayer sessions are held. View the Oasis of Hope Photo Gallery.

INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU)
Our Intensive Care Unit is under 24 hour watch by our nursing staff. The Oasis of Hope counts with state-of-the-art equipment in order to handle any medical emergency.

Things to Know

WEATHER
Tijuana's average weather is 64.5 F, but during the summer it can reach as high as 90 F. Please check the following link to get the latest weather reports www.weather.com.

CLOTHING
Please bring comfortable clothes for your own convenience. Also, don't forget to bring pajamas as we do not use hospital gowns. Oasis of Hope offers laundry services for only $5.50 USD p/bag. A laundry service associate will pick up your clothes and then return them to you folded nice and clean.

E-MAIL
Your friends and loved ones can send e-mails to . Our staff will be happy to print out and deliver your e-mails to your room. We have complimentary computers available that all our patients and their companions can use to send e-mails. There is no charge for this service.

GYM
Oasis of Hope offers you the opportunity to exercise at Acuario Gym & Spa, which is within walking distance from the Oasis of Hope. If you are interested, ask your patient representative.

SAFTERY DEPOSIT BOX
For your convenience, there are safety deposit boxes available for your valuables. Personnel at the front desk can assist you with this.

NEARBY CHURCHES
San Pablo Evangelical Church is half a block from the hospital. You may visit this church during your stay. There is also a Catholic Church 3 blocks from the Oasis of Hope.
